Starting his hospitality career aged fourteen peeling carrots in the kitchen of his local pub, Tom later realised the bar was his true calling.

Years of honing his beer, wine and spirits expertise followed  – he holds the highest level WSET Diploma – leading to working in the wine team at London’s ‘The Club’ at The Ivy (with stints delving deep into the magnificent cellars of Annabel’s).

Tom then joined Ridgeview, renowned pioneers of English Sparkling winemaking and eventually became a consultant to premium-quality wine businesses.

He was first welcomed into the Three Wine Men fold in 2018; his charismatic warmth and informed yet informal style made him a natural fit alongside the original trio of Oz Clarke, Tim Atkin MW and Olly Smith.

Tom Surgey remains an expert on the Wine Alive team where he shares his enthusiasm for all levels of wine, with a particular passion for Portuguese, Spanish, Central & Eastern European and English wines.
